No stove spotlight series would be complete without an entry from the hugely popular Burley range. The Burley Hollywell, model 9005, is a 5kW nominal stove that is flanked by the more powerful 8kW Burley Brampton (9108) and the less powerful 4kW Burley Debdale (9104). All three stoves share a similar family appearance and Burley’s impressive fireball technology.
British manufacturer Burley’s fireball range are the most efficient wood burning stoves in the world. Through a three part combustion process that crates a core temperature of 400°C to 600°C, Burley stoves can achieve an efficiency rating of up to 89.9%.
The inevitable consequence of such an efficient design is a lack of flexibility. The Burley Hollywell has a 6″ top only flue outlet, which may prove troublesome in a tight space or if a 6″ liner won’t fit. In a previous post we suggest you hold off ordering your stove until a comprehensive survey has been completed. This advice is particularly sound if you are considering a Burley stove.
The Hollywell and its Brampton and Debdale brothers are simple to operate with a single air control. They also feature a clean and simple design that falls neatly between the traditional and contemporary stove styles. However, if the Burley range has one weakness, it’s that the pictures do them no justice. Dare I say it, they look a little insubstantial and cheap in the brochure shots. However, out the box they are far more impressive and the quality is there to see. Nice touches include branded gauntlets, mug and a hot plate. It’s clear that Burley understand their customers are buying a premium product and these small touches elevate the buying experience.
The Burley Hollywell is DEFRA exempt and is approved for use with a 12mm decorative hearth. A dedicated air supply kit is an optional extra.
